Program Analysis
While the flagship Storrs campus has a strong state-wide reputation, the Hartford program's outcomes reflect the challenging realities of its local media market. Connecticut is caught between the major media hubs of Boston and New York, and Hartford itself has seen its primary newspaper, the *Hartford Courant*, shrink significantly. This means you'll be graduating into a smaller pool of local reporting and communications jobs with more modest starting salaries compared to graduates in larger cities. Many roles will be with smaller digital outlets, state government communications, or non-profits rather than major national networks. Your key to overcoming this is to actively build a portfolio and network *outside* of Hartford. Use your summers for internships in NYC or Boston; they are easily accessible by train and will expose you to the higher-paying opportunities that lift the national average.
