With experience, you can progress into management, where your focus shifts from hands-on design to leading teams, managing multimillion-dollar budgets, and ensuring large-scale projects are completed on time. Another path with strong job growth is becoming a postsecondary engineering teacher, where you’ll mentor the next generation of engineers while conducting your own research.

AI will significantly change your day-to-day work, but it won’t eliminate these jobs. Expect AI to handle routine analysis, run simulations, and generate initial drafts, acting as a powerful assistant. Your value will come from validating the AI's output, managing increasingly complex systems, and making the final, critical judgment calls that require human expertise and accountability.
